CD Spotlight

Psalms & Elegies (1997)
This recording includes "Tiananmen Elegy," "Don Cherry's Song of Beauty" and
"Psalms" recorded live at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival.

Here is a sampling of response to this recording:

"There's an all-pervading honesty to this music, both in its conception and execution. The latter aspect depends on the ensemble's notable precision and the strength of its soloists . . . Harvey's compositions unfold naturally and forcefully . . . the music moves with logic and momentum. Aardvark gives one hope for the future of the large jazz ensemble. This is a very fine band, and a very fine album." Cadence

"A brave and unusual venture" The Wire

"The playing is spectacular, the music is adventurous, interesting and spiritual."
Cathy Austin, KZSU-FM

Recent: Satire & Salutations

Aardvark’s recent November Post-Election concert, funded in part by the MIT DeFlorez Fund for Humor and entitled “Satire & Salutations” was a rollicking event. Quotes from Mark Twain, and the spirit of H. L. Mencken held sway as Mark Harvey’s original pieces such as “Flat Earth Boogie,” “De-Evolution Blues,” and “Scamology” evoked the political/cultural scene, introduced by hilarious anecdotes from former De Florez Professor Jay Keyser, a member of the orchestra.

And the standing-room-only crowd also heard a salute to past “Rascals & Scoundrels” James Michael Curley and Charles Ponzi.  All in all, a  musical-satirical evening that neatly counterpointed the best of our national stand-up comics. The event was held at Killian Hall, MIT.
